Phil Larochelle

Phil Larochelle is a Partner at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, where he leads the fund’s fusion portfolio encompassing Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Type One Energy, XCimer Energy and Zap Energy. A physicist-turned-investor, he holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard and both an MBA and B.Sc. in Physics from MIT, and previously ran early-stage energy projects at Google X and served as a Fellow at ARPA-E. Noted for insisting on peer-reviewed evidence before investing, he is regarded as one of fusion’s most scientifically rigorous financiers.
